Work on the extension of the new wing of the 'Opera Pia Siccardi' protected residence in Spotorno has been officially completed. Work designed and completed by means of a Project Financing between Azienda Pubblica di Servizi alla Persona Maria Siccardirepresenting the property, and Serene Horizonsa Friuli-based company that had been awarded the management through a European tender for over thirty years.
The facility currently houses 60 self-sufficient, partially self-sufficient elderly and stabilised psychiatric guests. Joined to the existing one by a connecting body with floor level and roof, the new facility has 48 beds: it is four storeys above ground with a T-shaped plan with irregular arms, distributed in three separate residential units equipped with access control to monitor the movements of dementia patients.
On the ground floor are the reception and administrative offices, a visitor's lounge and a lounge for recreational activities, a rehabilitation gymnasium, a medical clinic, changing rooms for staff and a room for personal services (podiatrist and hairdresser). On both the first and second floors there will be a dining room and a living room.
The history of the Ente Opera Pia Siccardi dates back to 1945, when Maria Siccardi left the Spotorno Municipality's Congregazione di Carità as universal heir of her considerable estate. An important and decisive role was played by Monsignor Aragno, Maria Siccardi's spiritual assistant, who supported the idea of creating a charity aimed at supporting fragile people and orphaned minors in Spotorno. In 1956 the Ente Morale Opera Pia Siccardi (IPAB) was established, which in 2003, following a merger with the Asilo Infantile Berninzoni, was transformed into a Public Personal Services Agency (ASP).
A couple of weeks ago, the facility began welcoming its first guests. "We are very proud of the opening of this new wing that connects to the previous, but it is a brand new and very modern building' - states Mario Modolo, general manager of the Friuli group. The official opening will take place on 12 July 2023: the management of Sereni Orizzonti and the Board of Directors of ASP Opera Pia Siccardi Berninzoni are pleased to invite the authorities and the people of Spotorn to the event, which will begin at 11:00 a.m. morning with refreshments.
The already operating facility is well established in the area providing a very useful and appreciated care service to the citizens of Spotorn and beyond.
The President of the ASP, Mr Salvatore Lecce, declares that the structure, compared to other realities, has as its distinctive value the active collaboration between Sereni Orizzonti and the Board of Directors, which has strongly desired (as per the provisions of the will) the presence of the Religious Congregation of Don Daste, with four Religious who offer a very important assistance to the Guests of the protected residence.
The Sereni Orizzonti group is present in Italy and abroad with eighty facilities for a total of 5600 beds; in Liguria it is present with four other residences (Borghetto Santo Spirito, Humanitas residence; Calice Ligure, Villa Alfieri residence; Busalla, Villa Macciò residence; Recco, San Francesco residence).
