SERENI ORIZZONTI EXPANDS AND SHOPS IN SPAIN

02.08.2019

After Germany Spain, Sereni Orizzonti with the Iberian branch has purchased the RSA 'La Edad de Oro', located in the municipality of El Alamo, 30 kilometres from Madrid, which has 111 beds for non-self-sufficient elderly people and employs about 80 employees. This is an EUR 8 million operation, less significant in terms of amounts than the one carried out in recent months in Germany, where for EUR 30 million the facilities in Augsburg and Schliersee (near Munich) were purchased, at the same time initiating the plan to build two new sites. However, this is a further important step in the internationalisation process of Sereni Orizzonti, which is also aiming for rapid expansion in other European countries. "La Edad de Oro", as in the prevailing Spanish model, is only partially affiliated. The number of residences for the elderly on the Iberian peninsula is growing rapidly, with a ratio of 4.2 beds for every 100 residents over 65. Sereni Orizzonti's investments abroad are in addition to the more than EUR 200 million committed to building new RSAs in Italy in 2019/2020. "Between facilities for the elderly built and new acquisitions we are increasing our offer by one new RSA per month. A truly remarkable pace, with important spin-offs in terms of employment and services for the elderly, that objectively no one else in the sector is keeping up in Italy," comments reference shareholder Massimo Blasoni. Sereni Orizzonti currently has 5,300 beds and 3,000 employees, but the plan is to exceed 10,000 beds by the end of 2022. The consolidated group turnover being achieved for 2019 exceeds 200 million euros, it was 160 million in 2018: a growth of over 25% in the year in line with that of the last five years. Net profits for 2018 exceed EUR 13 million. "We are building environmentally sustainable, energy-saving structures with reduced carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. At the moment, construction sites are open all over Italy: in Borgo Ticino (NO), Bovisio Masciago (MB), Castenaso (BO), Cornaredo (MI), Ghisalba (BG), Fontanafredda (PN), La Loggia and San Gillio (TO), Spotorno (SV), Torrazza Piemonte (TO), Vernate (MI) and Villacidro (SU),' says Valentino Bortolussi, head of the construction sector. "In the new facilities being built, we aim to increase the number of single rooms and the size of common areas. We need to improve quality and modernise the housing stock by creating a protected environment, especially for the elderly with cognitive problems".
