In Monfalcone, work resumed in February 2023 on the construction of the new Socio-Sanitary Facility for the non-self-sufficient elderly in Via Galileo Galilei, in the immediate vicinity of the city hospital. The construction, after a period of standstill, has been re-contracted and will be ready by early 2024.
The design envisages a four-storey, L-shaped building, oriented on the north/south axis for the best possible sunshine. The elevations will be clad in standing seam sheet metal, reproducing a design with dynamic characteristics that fits well into the context of the neighbouring buildings.
The new Socio-Healthcare Residence will be built on four floors and will be able to accommodate 110 non-self-sufficient elderly people, distributed in 4 separate in-patient units (equipped with access control to monitor the movements of guests suffering from dementia). The facility will be surrounded by a large equipped area, which can be used entirely on foot or with wheelchairs and walkers. A large car park will be available for family members of visiting guests.
The rooms will be spacious and bright, comfortably furnished and each equipped with its own bathroom for the disabled, as well as being equipped with motorised beds, blinds with domotic shutters, call system and fire sensors. An assisted bathroom with a shower stretcher or shower chair will be provided on each floor. The rooms will be equipped with controlled mechanical ventilation (VMC), which allows a change of clean, dry air in the rooms without having to open the windows but recovering the heat that is expelled from the air.
Like all other recent constructions in the rest of Italy, this building will also have decidedly avant-garde characteristics in terms of eco-sustainability and energy saving. Built in energy class A3, it will in fact be able to produce 243,000 kWh of energy itself from renewable energy sources, i.e. more than 60% of its entire requirements.
