FIRST OUTING OF THE YEAR FOR THE SENIORS OF THE MARCON RETIREMENT HOME: DESTINATION THE MONTE BERICO SANCTUARY IN VICENZA

Clean air, a taste for discovery and serenity: these were the main ingredients of the day spent by the guests of the Rsa 'San Giorgio' in Marcon.

Led by the director, the facility animator and some family members, the seniors went on an excursion to the Monte Berico Sanctuary in Vicenza, a place of worship of great historical significance, the result of the integration of two churches: the first, a 15th-century Gothic-style church, the second, from the second half of the 17th century, a basilica in Baroque style.

Upon arrival at the Sanctuary, guests conducted a tour, revealing anecdotes and curiosities about the building. Afterwards, guests, family members and operators all had lunch together in a local trattoria.

"Outings in the area are a special occasion for the elderly," says Danijela Filkovska, director of the facility, "They are a diversion from everyday life and a return to sociability. This is something that is often lacking for residents of old people's homes, which is why we are very committed to it. After the visit, we immediately saw the benefits: the residents were much more active, lively and vital, both mentally and physically. We invited the guests' relatives, who are a great resource and reference point for us in sharing the activities and projects that the facility offers".
