NONNOLIMPIADI 2024: THE MOTOR PROJECT INVOLVING ALL OF OUR 80 RSA IN ITALY

The 'NonnOlympics' started for all 80 Italian residences for the elderly: from 13 May 2024, the Group's Italian RSAs started two weeks of 'Olympic' games for the Third Age, entirely dedicated to motor inclusivity and fun for guests.

In the year of the 2024 Olympics in Paris, Sereni Orizzonti is thus launching a nationwide physio-educational project, which will involve more than 5,000 guests in the regions where the Group is present.

Starting next week, the RSAs of Friuli Venezia-Giulia, Veneto, Liguria, Emilia-Romagna, Piedmont, Lombardy, Tuscany, Lazio, Sardinia and Sicily will be animated by psychomotor games and competitions aimed at promoting sociability, physical skills and healthy competition.

The activities of the psycho-pedagogical programme are the result of the work and collaboration between entertainers, educators and physiotherapists at each residence. One of the objectives of the NonnOlympics is to automate the residual motor skills of each patient: the adapted sports, including slalom courses between skittles, outdoor bowling, basketball, target shooting and bowling, are designed to make the residents gain more confidence and self-esteem, thus restoring their confidence in their own movements.

Residence teams explain that: "the elderly are also rediscovering their competitive spirit. The intention is to promote the wellbeing of the elderly residents, working on tolerance to frustration and negative emotions, making them more resilient. Each facility customised the day: some came up with amusing rankings, some made t-shirts and medals branded 'NonnOlympics', some thought up a commentary done directly by the guests-spectators, and finally, some involved sports associations active in the area".

"Improving the quality of life of the guests so that, although with reduced residual motor and cognitive abilities, they can always live to the fullest of their possibilities: this is the aim of this national project, in which physiotherapy and animation activities are combined. Each guest will be a winner in his or her own way, thanks to the motivation and confidence regained in his or her own body,' said Mario Modolo, General Director of Sereni Orizzonti.
